BOGOLAN / HEADING
Bogolan/Mud Dye is a Malian textile dyed using an ancestral technique familiar in Burkina Faso, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal. The word bogolan, from the Bambara language, derives from the words bogo, meaning “the earth”, and lan, meaning “of”. The basic dyes are generated by soaking the fabric in a decoction of African birch leaves (n'galama) and then leaving them to dry in the sun. After the basic dyes, the designs are created in fermented mud using a delicate brush.
